Episode Seven: The one where Nicki gets a wake up call from the universe!

Well, shit. Oh hi universe, nice to get your messages, thanks for popping by! 🫣

Somewhere else in my ramblings I’ve mentioned an amazing coach I’ve had in the past and the wisdom she shared with me- and because it’s fairly likely you haven’t seen it I’ll summarise it again.

When the universe is trying to get something through to you it’ll give you some increasingly strong signs: a side-eye, then a shove, then it’ll just run you over with a big-ass truck until you get the damn message! (Actually she put it much nicer- feather, brick, truck- but since I only just recently escaped the 14-wheeler it’s still a bit raw😉)

Apparently the first message that I wasn’t getting was that maybe I haven’t niched down enough. This is still a work in progress to figure out so we’re not going to have the ‘sitcom arc’ in this post where I show a problem then solve it in a half hour episode with 7.25 minutes of ads and canned laughter- but it’s definitely something I’m looking at pretty intensely! Currently I’m focusing on spreading the word of my new business out to ‘small business owners who want to scale their businesses to give them time, freedom, and security’. I’m now contemplating if I should narrow that down to focus on ‘advisers who own small businesses who want to (etc etc etc)’, because I'm still struggling to get much traction on social media and I HATE the thought of throwing money at Meta and it's cronies- they have enough money as it is, and I'd like mine to go somewhere where it can do much more than just sit in a billionaire's bank account! But it's SO DAMN HARD!!! *stamps foot and swears a bit*

Now you’ve probably got the idea I like being useful, so if you're relating to this here’s an insightabout what I’m doing to help make that decision: I’m looking around for smarter people who have the fruit on the tree to help me figure this shit out. (Yeah, I know, revolutionary, right?) But I’ve found a couple of webinars in about two weeks time that I’m going to be joining where people who know their stuff are going to be sharing their expertise, so I’ll update you once I know what they say!

The other message that I got loud and clear was that I need to remember I have two businesses, and that businesses (even when set up properly) need to be shown love and attention by someone, otherwise they’re going to start sulking!

Flashback time: it’s just before Christmas 2024 and things are looking AMAZING! I’d just started setting up this business, and in my other business I had the most amount of work in my pipeline that I’d ever had going into Christmas- and it should have all got put in place over the Christmas period meaning I was free to focus on this one because financially I was probably sitting pretty until about February. *Cue ominous music*

Well I have no idea what happened but Every. Single. One. of those deals fell over. EVERY ONE!!!! In ten years in that industry I’d never had a run like that and boy did it put me on my ass financially! I still don’t know why it happened like that (I think I’ve ruled out the malevolent leprechaun theory), but the fact is that it did. Thankfully I have really good relationships with my suppliers and either the universe (or the leprechaun) has decided I seemed to have learned my lesson and is sending happy pipeline vibes my way again, but yep, I now am very aware I have 2 business babies and I can’t favour one over the other!!!

So I’ll let you know what happens with the niche thing (although that’ll likely be the episode after the next one), and who knows what’s going to happen next week (although I do know that I have in person meetings 4 days out of 5 next week so I have to dress like a grown-ass adult almost every day- ew!), but I’ll make sure I keep you in the loop!
